AMMF supports research in Edinburgh

During an informative visit in April 2014 to the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh, AMMF’s Helen Morement met Professor Stuart Forbes and his team who are working on novel cholangiocarcinoma research. They are studying the macrophages that help to drive intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, including the signals involved (Wnt and Notch) and, based on the results, will work on therapeutic targets.

The Edinburgh team is very hopeful that this work is bringing closer what could be some ‘game changing’ treatment targets for cholangiocarcinoma.

AMMF has now agreed a grant of £70,000 to be given over three years to help with this very promising work.

During the visit, Helen also had the opportunity to meet surgeon Professor Stephen Wigmore of Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary and to hear about the care of cholangiocarcinoma patients in Scotland.
