AMMF supports Imperial’s CC Biomarker Repository

Following recent discussions, AMMF has now approved a grant of £30,000 to help support the national cholangiocarcinoma biomarker repository at Imperial College London.

This funding will help to employ a technician who will log the receipt of existing samples that have already been collected at 8 sites* around the UK, plus new ones as they arrive, register in detail each sample and the patient information that has been gathered with them (anonymously), keep a record of the samples storage, and track approved research projects that samples are released for. This grant will also help to fund necessary equipment and consumables.

A national repository of this sort will be an incredibly important resource, and future plans for including samples from not only patients but relatives and friends (as they would have similar lifestyle patterns), together with medical, dietary and exercise history, should make this invaluable in the field of cholangiocarcinoma research.

Update March 2017:  Everyone’s samples are valuable for the biobank – patient, family, friend, colleague.  If you would like to donate samples of your blood and urine (very small amounts and painless!) to the biobank, please call biobank co-ordinators Thomas Barbera on: 0203 312 5961 or Larry Koomson on: 0203 312 5806 to arrange an appointment.
