Team AMMF at the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon – Sunday 15 March 2009

The adidas Silverstone Half Marathon is the official warm-up race for the London Marathon, held this year on Sunday April 26 and, with just six weeks to go to this world famous event, the 13.1 miles run around the world famous F1 circuit is seen as the ideal preparation.

Former world record holder and London Marathon Race Director, Dave Bedford, and Jim Clarke, Chairman of the London Marathon, dropped the famous chequered flag to start the 6,801 runners across the grid.

For once, conditions were ideal for the 13 mile race, both for runners and the thousands of spectators who witnessed the event bathed in glorious sunshine, with temperatures at 11 degrees, an 8mph north westerly wind, and 65% humidity.

Trevor (l), and Tom –
Just wait until next year, Trevor!

The field included celebrities from Coronation Street, The Bill, Holby Blue, Emmerdale and Eastenders and a good number of ‘characters’. A Lewis Hamilton, an adidas training shoe, Holiday Inn’s Wee Willy Winkie, an F1 Racing Driver from Renault, plus bottles of Lucozade, Vittel and London Pride from Fullers, were seen around the track taking part as a dress rehearsal for the sponsor mascot London Marathon Challenge.

Last year a challenge was set up between Team AMMF’s Trevor Sibley and Tom Sale as Tom, on his first outing for the charity, crossed the line in a red hot 1:53.54, beating veteran runner Trevor by almost 5 minutes. This year the tables turned however, and Trevor scorched home in 1:50:18, ahead of Tom by just over 10 minutes. Looking forward to next year, guys!
